A good positive review says what you bought, how you used it and one concrete result, in two to four sentences. "Great product" helps nobody. "Arrived in two days and the medium fits over a sweater" helps the next shopper decide. Below are 50 positive review examples grouped by situation, five negative-but-fair ones and a fill-in template. We wrote them as illustrations: they are examples to adapt, not reviews to paste for a product you did not buy.
Name the product, give one detail a stranger could check (a size, a number of days, a price, a name) and say who it suits. That formula is behind every one of the 5 star review examples below. Store owners get reviews like these by asking every customer after delivery, with one guiding question.

What makes a positive review useful
| Quality | What it means | In practice |
|---|---|---|
| Specific | It names the product, the variant and the situation | The 48-inch desk, used four days a week |
| Concrete | It contains something measurable | Three days to deliver, 40 minutes to assemble, $38 |
| Balanced | It mentions a limit, or who the product is not for | Runs warm in summer, cable tray sold separately |
Google's tips for writing great reviews say the same: be specific, describe your own experience with its positive and negative aspects, and aim for about a paragraph.

Balance is not a weakness: the Spiegel Research Center at Northwestern University found that purchase likelihood peaks between 4.0 and 4.7 stars and drops as the average approaches 5.0. Length matters less than you think: in the BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 (1,002 US adults), being long and detailed ranked last of ten review factors, at 26%.
Before you copy anything: honest reviews only
Under the FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials, in effect since October 21, 2024, it is illegal in the United States for a business to write, buy or sell a review from someone who does not exist or who never used the product, AI-generated reviews included. Courts can impose civil penalties for knowing violations, and people who write fake reviews for a living are covered too. A review of something you never bought is that kind of fake review, and Google's content policy removes reviews that are not based on a real experience.

Google's policy says it in one paragraph.

| 1 | Any product | Exactly as described, arrived early, and I have used it every day since. |
| 2 | Clothing | True to size, still soft after five washes, already ordered a second color. |
| 3 | A gift | Bought it for my dad's birthday and he has not stopped talking about it. |
| 4 | Food and drink | Fresh, well packed, and gone in two days. Reordering tonight. |
| 5 | Home goods | Ten minutes to set up and it looks better than the photos. |
| 6 | Customer service | Asked a question before ordering and got a clear answer within the hour. |
| 7 | Shipping | Ordered Monday, on my porch Wednesday, nothing damaged. |
| 8 | Value | Half the price of the big brand and I cannot tell the difference. |
| 9 | Repeat order | Third order this year, same quality every time. |
| 10 | Local service | On time, fair price, and they cleaned up before leaving. |
Product quality review examples
Good review examples about quality answer what the product page cannot: how does it hold up?
| # | Product | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | Jacket | Worn almost daily for three months and the zipper and cuffs still look new. I am 5 foot 10 and the medium fits over a sweater. |
| 12 | Frying pan | Heats evenly on my induction stove and eggs slide off with a little butter. Two months of daily use, no scratches. |
| 13 | Desk | Solid wood top, every hole lined up, and assembly took me 40 minutes alone. It does not wobble when I type. |
| 14 | Earbuds | The battery lasts two full workdays. Pairing took seconds and the case fits a jeans pocket. |
| 15 | Moisturizer | Light texture, absorbs in a minute, no shine. One bottle has lasted nine weeks so far. |
| 16 | Dog toy | Our lab destroys most toys in a day. This one has survived six weeks and still squeaks. |
Shipping and delivery review examples
| # | Situation | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 17 | Faster than promised | Ordered Sunday night, delivered Wednesday morning, two days ahead of the estimate. |
| 18 | Careful packaging | Each glass was wrapped separately and the box had corner protectors. All six arrived intact. |
| 19 | Remote address | Shipping to Alaska usually costs a fortune or is not offered. Here it was a flat $8 and took six days. |
| 20 | A problem fixed | The carrier lost the first package. A replacement shipped the same day at no charge and arrived before I expected the original. |
| 21 | Holiday deadline | Ordered a gift on December 18 and it arrived on the 22nd, as promised at checkout. |
| 22 | Large item | The delivery team called 30 minutes ahead, carried the sofa up two flights and took the packaging with them. |
Customer service review examples
Customer review examples about service should name the person, the channel and how long it took.
| # | Situation | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 23 | Exchange | I ordered the wrong size. Maria in support sent a prepaid label within an hour and shipped the exchange before my return arrived. |
| 24 | Question before buying | I asked on chat whether the bag fits a 16-inch laptop. The agent measured one and sent me a photo. |
| 25 | Missing part | A part was missing from my order. No forms to fill in: they apologized and mailed it the next day. |
| 26 | Phone support | A person answered on the second ring, found my order by my name and fixed the address in a minute. |
| 27 | Warranty | My blender stopped working at month ten. They honored the warranty and the new unit arrived within the week. |
| 28 | Order change | I changed my mind about the color an hour after ordering. One email and it was updated before it shipped. |
Real reviews work the same way, like this one left by a merchant for a Shopify app.

Value for money review examples
| # | Angle | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 29 | Better than the price | At $38 I expected a decent backpack. It has handled a year of daily commuting with no frayed straps. |
| 30 | Cost per use | The subscription works out to about $1.10 a cup, less than half of what I was spending at the coffee shop. |
| 31 | Worth paying more | Not the cheapest, and worth it. The cheaper one I bought first lasted four months. This one is in its second year. |
| 32 | Bundle | The starter bundle saved me about $25 compared with buying each item separately, and I use every piece. |
| 33 | Low risk | Free returns and a two-year warranty at this price made the decision easy. |
Repeat purchase review examples
Say how many times you have bought and what stayed the same.
| # | Product | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 34 | Coffee | This is my fourth order. The beans are always roasted within the week and the quality has not slipped. |
| 35 | Sheets | I bought one set in March and came back for two more in June. Same feel, same fit, same color after washing. |
| 36 | Pet food | I have reordered every month for a year. Delivery has never been late and the price has stayed the same. |
| 37 | Boots | Second pair of the same boots. The first lasted three winters of daily wear, so I did not shop around. |
| 38 | Came back | I tried a cheaper brand to save money and came back after one month. Lesson learned. |
Detailed 5-star review examples
These great review examples follow one order: who I am, what I bought, what happened, one reservation.
39. Standing desk
I work from home four days a week and bought the 48-inch standing desk. Assembly took 50 minutes and the motor is quiet enough for calls. The cable tray is sold separately and you will want it.
40. Running shoes
I run about 20 miles a week on pavement. My usual 10.5 fit right, and after 150 miles the tread shows almost no wear. They run warm in summer, so pick the mesh version for July.
41. Carry-on suitcase
Eleven flights since January. It fits the overhead bin on regional jets and the wheels still roll straight. My only wish is a second handle on the bottom.
42. Convertible car seat
We bought this for our 9-month-old. Installing it took 10 minutes with the video on the product page. The cover comes off without unthreading the straps. It is wide, so measure your back seat first.
Service business review examples
For a local business, the best review examples mention punctuality, price and the person who did the work. Our guide on how to leave a Google review shows where the button is.
| # | Business | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 43 | Hair salon | Jess listened to what I wanted, showed me photos before cutting, and finished on time. |
| 44 | Dentist | The front desk explained what my insurance covered before the cleaning, so there was no surprise bill. |
| 45 | Plumber | I called at 8 a.m. about a leaking water heater and a technician was here by 10. The price he quoted matched the invoice. |
| 46 | Restaurant | A table of eight on a Saturday and the food still came out together and hot. Our server remembered the nut allergy. |
| 47 | Auto repair | They showed me the worn part and told me which repair could wait six months. I paid $40 less than the estimate. |
| 48 | House cleaning | Same two cleaners every visit, always within the arrival window. |
| 49 | Veterinarian | Dr. Patel sat on the floor with our nervous dog. We got a written estimate before any tests. |
| 50 | Movers | The crew arrived on time, wrapped every piece of furniture and finished an hour under the estimate. Nothing broken. |
Negative review examples that stay fair
A fair negative review states what worked, what failed, and what the business did about it.
| Rating | Example |
|---|---|
| 3 stars | The blender is powerful and easy to clean, but much louder than I expected. Not for early mornings with a sleeping baby. |
| 2 stars | The product itself is good. Delivery took 16 days against an estimate of five, and tracking did not update for a week. |
| 3 stars | The quality is there, but the size chart is off: the large fit like a medium. The exchange was free, which is why this is not two stars. |
| 2 stars | I waited four days for a reply about a damaged item. Once someone answered, the refund was quick. |
| 1 star | The lamp arrived with a cracked base and the replacement had the same crack. I was refunded in full, but I cannot recommend it. |

A review template you can fill in
Use this leave a review template and replace the brackets.
I bought [product and variant] for [reason or situation]. After [how long] of use, [what stood out, with one number or detail]. [One thing that could be better, if there is one.] I would recommend it to [who it suits].
For a service:
[Name or team] at [business] [what they did for you]. [One specific detail: timing, price or result.] I will [come back or recommend them] because [reason].

For store owners: how to get reviews like these
Customers are willing: in the BrightLocal survey cited above, 69% of consumers wrote a review in the last 12 months, and positive experiences were shared more often (60%) than negative ones (29%). Whether you get two words or example 39 depends on how you ask.
- Ask every customer, after delivery. Timing and 17 ready-made messages are in how to ask customers for reviews.
- Put one guiding question in the request. "What would you tell a friend who is thinking about buying it?" gets a specific answer. See our review request email guide.
- Make it one tap. The free Google review link generator builds a link that opens the review form directly.
- Do not script the answer. Never send a customer a finished review to paste, and never tie a reward to a positive rating: the FTC rule bans it. The compliant version is in discount for reviews.
Steps 1 to 3 are what Reviewz automates. It is a Shopify app, used by more than 350 stores, that asks every customer for a review after an order over WhatsApp, SMS and email. Customers who rate 4 or 5 stars are sent to Trustpilot, Google or Judge.me, and the others get a private feedback form. Check each platform's invitation rules before you choose where to send people. It is free to start, and paid plans begin at $59 a month on the pricing page.
