Customer review software for Shopify falls into three categories: collection workflow (Reviewz, Yotpo Reviews), display widgets (Judge.me, Loox), and brand-level platforms (Trustpilot, Reviews.io). Most stores need one from each category. Free combinations work for under $500K ARR; mid-market merchants ($500K-$5M) get the best ROI from $50-$300/month stacks; above $5M, bundled enterprise platforms (Yotpo, Bazaarvoice) start to make sense.
What "customer review software" actually means
The phrase "customer review software" is overloaded. Different vendors mean different things by it:
- Review collection software: the workflow that asks customers for reviews after purchase (post-purchase emails, NPS surveys, multi-channel routing)
- Review display software: the widgets and badges that show reviews on your Shopify product pages and storefront
- Review analytics software: dashboards, sentiment analysis, and reporting on review performance
- Review reputation management: response automation, fake review monitoring, and platform-side trust signals
Most of the big platforms (Yotpo, Reviewz, Judge.me, Trustpilot) cover multiple categories. This guide ranks them by capability matrix, not by feature count, so you can pick what actually fits your Shopify store. If you'd rather see the same picks framed by AOV tier, start with our best Shopify review apps roundup.

The Shopify App Store reviews category lists 200+ apps; only a dozen are actually viable for production.

The 6 platforms that matter for Shopify
1. Reviewz.ai, best for multi-platform routing
Reviewz isn't a Trustpilot replacement; it sits on top of Trustpilot, Google, Judge.me and Loox simultaneously. Post-purchase NPS survey, then route promoters (9-10) to leave a review on the platform of your choice, catch detractors (0-6) in a private feedback portal before they post a public 1-star. The free tier handles the full workflow on Shopify.
Best for: Shopify stores wanting reviews on multiple platforms without manual coordination.

| Reviewz.ai for Shopify automatically routes happy customers to leave reviews on Trustpilot, Google, and Judge.me, while privately catching unhappy ones in a feedback portal before they post a public 1-star. Re-engage every reviewer with upsell offers via WhatsApp, email, and SMS. Install Reviewz on Shopify |
2. Judge.me, best free on-site product reviews
The most-installed Shopify reviews app (25,000+ active stores). Free plan includes unlimited reviews, photo/video uploads, and basic widgets, which is why it tops our genuinely free Shopify review apps ranking. Paid Awesome plan ($15/month) adds Q&A and custom forms. We covered this in our Trustpilot vs Judge.me guide.

Judge.me on the Shopify App Store, 50,000+ active stores, the most-installed reviews app on Shopify.
Best for: any Shopify store building product-level review volume on a tight budget.
3. Trustpilot, best for brand-level credibility
Trustpilot reviews live on a public third-party domain, providing trust signals that on-site reviews can't match. Free tier supports unlimited organic reviews and basic widget embeds. Paid plans (Standard +€250/month) unlock the Invitation API. See our Trustpilot pricing guide, and if the cost is hard to justify, the Trustpilot alternatives for Shopify roundup.
Best for: mature stores wanting a brand-level credibility layer beyond on-site product reviews.
4. Loox, best for photo/video reviews
The platform of choice for visually-driven brands (apparel, beauty, accessories). Photo-review widgets and a referral program tied to review submissions drive 3-5x more photo reviews than text-focused alternatives. Pricing $35-$300/month, no permanent free plan.

Loox on the Shopify App Store, photo and video review specialist with referral program built-in.
Best for: brands where product appearance is the buying decision driver.
5. Yotpo, best enterprise bundle
Reviews + loyalty + SMS marketing + visual UGC bundled. Pricing scales aggressively past 50 orders/month, most mid-market merchants pay $200-$2000+/month. See our Yotpo alternatives guide for the unbundling math.

Yotpo on the Shopify App Store, bundled reviews + loyalty + SMS marketing, best for $5M+ ARR brands.
Best for: $5M+ ARR brands running loyalty programs alongside reviews.
6. Reviews.io, best mid-market alternative
Combines product reviews (Judge.me-style) with brand-level service reviews (Trustpilot-style) in one platform. $45/month starting tier, significantly cheaper than Trustpilot's €250 entry. Less polished UX than newer alternatives but stable.

Reviews.io on the Shopify App Store, mid-market alternative combining product and brand-level reviews.
Best for: $500K-$5M ARR Shopify stores wanting a Trustpilot-equivalent at lower cost.
The cost-per-review math (worked example)
Typical Shopify store doing 5,000 orders/month, collecting reviews on the same orders across different stacks:
| Stack | Monthly cost | New reviews/month | Cost per review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reviewz free + Judge.me free + Trustpilot free | $0 | 450 reviews | $0.00 |
| Reviewz free + Trustpilot Standard | $280 | 620 reviews | $0.45 |
| Yotpo Premium (reviews + loyalty) | $1,099 | 550 reviews | $2.00 |
| Loox Advanced + Judge.me free | $300 | 480 reviews | $0.62 |
| Stamped Pro + Klaviyo | $223 | 410 reviews | $0.54 |
Yotpo's $2.00/review is roughly 4-5x more expensive than Reviewz + Judge.me + Trustpilot Standard, despite collecting fewer total reviews. The bundled features (loyalty, SMS) only justify this if you actually use them.
The decision framework by store stage
Pre-launch and first 100 orders
Reviewz free + Judge.me free + Trustpilot free. Total cost: $0. Total functional coverage: 80% of what you need.
$100K to $1M ARR
Reviewz free + Judge.me free + Trustpilot free or Standard ($250). Add Trustpilot Standard if brand-level trust signals matter for your category (apparel, beauty, considered purchases).
$1M to $5M ARR
Reviewz + Judge.me + Reviews.io or Trustpilot Standard. Layer in NPS tracking and structured negative review responses. Total: $250-$500/month.
$5M+ ARR
Either continue with the Reviewz + Judge.me + Trustpilot stack OR consolidate into Yotpo if you also need bundled loyalty + SMS. The break-even is around $5M ARR; below that, the unbundled stack wins on cost.

What to look for when evaluating
- Free tier capability. Can you actually use it for your business, or is it a glorified trial?
- Annual contract requirement. Avoid platforms that lock you in for 12 months without out-clauses.
- API access. If you ever want to migrate or integrate elsewhere, API access is essential. Check what tier unlocks it.
- CSV import/export. All platforms claim this; some hide it behind paid tiers.
- Multi-platform support. If your strategy is single-platform, fine. If multi, only Reviewz handles this natively.
- Verified review badges. The legal and trust value of "Verified Purchase" badges is significant; ensure your platform supports them.
The bottom line
The best customer review software for your Shopify store is rarely a single product; it's a stack of 2-3 tools that each do one thing well. For most growing Shopify stores, that stack is Reviewz + Judge.me + Trustpilot (free or Standard). The Yotpo all-in-one approach makes sense above $5M ARR with active loyalty programs, but for everyone else, the unbundled stack delivers more for less.
