Why a QR code is the highest-converting way to ask in person
Online, you can send a customer the review link directly. In the physical world, the gap between "sure, I will leave you a review" and actually doing it is where almost all reviews die: nobody types a URL from a receipt. A QR code closes that gap to a single camera scan, which is why counters, packaging inserts and delivery notes with a review QR reliably outperform every "find us on Google" sticker. The mechanics that make it work are the same as digital asks: the code must point at the direct review form, not your homepage, and the ask must reach the customer while the experience is fresh.
Step by step: from business name to printed QR
- 1. Generate your direct review link. For Google, our Google review link generator builds the URL that opens the five-star form; the same exists for Trustpilot, Amazon and Facebook.
- 2. Paste the link above and download. PNG for screens and simple prints, SVG for anything a print shop touches.
- 3. Add a one-line call to action next to the code: "Happy with your order? Scan to leave us a review." The QR alone gets ignored; the sentence gives it a reason.
- 4. Scan-test a printed proof with two or three different phones before mass printing. Contrast, size and glossy lamination are the three classic scan killers.
Where review QR codes work hardest
- Packaging inserts and thank-you cards. The classic for ecommerce: the card lands at the exact moment of unboxing satisfaction.
- Receipts and invoices. Cheap, automatic, and reaches every single customer.
- Counter stands and tables. For physical locations, the counter QR catches customers at the moment of payment, the natural feedback moment.
- Delivery notes for local services. Tradespeople and local services get their best reviews from the completed-job moment.
One compliance note that applies everywhere: keep the ask neutral. A discount "for your 5-star review" violates Google's policies and the FTC rule; a plain "scan to review us" is exactly what the platforms recommend. The timing playbook from our when-to-ask guide applies to physical asks too.
Print sizes that actually scan
The working rule is one tenth of the scan distance: a code scanned from 30 cm (receipt, card) needs 2 to 3 cm; from 1 meter (counter stand), 10 cm; a poster scanned from across a room, 20 cm or more. Print at 300 DPI minimum, keep the quiet zone (the white margin the generator already adds) untouched, and prefer dark-on-light: inverted codes scan noticeably worse. When in doubt, download the SVG and let the print shop scale it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I create a QR code for my Google reviews?
Two steps. First get your direct Google review link, the URL that opens the five-star form for your business, using our free Google review link generator. Then paste that link into the QR generator above and download the PNG or SVG. Print it on a counter stand, receipt, packaging or thank-you card, and customers scan straight into the review form.
Is a Google review QR code allowed?
Yes. Google encourages businesses to ask customers for reviews and even provides a short review link in your Business Profile for exactly this purpose. What is not allowed is offering rewards for reviews, asking only happy customers, or setting up review-gating. A neutral 'scan to leave us a review' QR is fully compliant.
What size should I print a review QR code?
The reliable minimum is 2 x 2 cm (about 0.8 inch) for a code scanned at close range, like a receipt or card. For a counter stand use at least 4 x 4 cm, and for posters follow the rule of one tenth of the scanning distance: a code scanned from 1 meter should be at least 10 cm wide. Download the SVG for print work, it stays sharp at any size.
Does this QR code expire or track scans?
Neither. The generator encodes your URL directly into the QR pattern, a static code, so it works forever, needs no account, and nothing is tracked or stored. If you want scan analytics, put a UTM parameter on the link before generating (for example ?utm_source=qr) and read the results in your analytics tool.
Can I use this for Trustpilot, Amazon or Facebook reviews?
Yes, the generator encodes any URL. Generate the direct review link first with our Trustpilot, Amazon or Facebook link generators, then paste it here. One QR per platform works better than a link hub page: every extra tap between scan and review form costs submissions.
The QR covers in person. Reviewz covers everyone else.
Most of your customers never see the counter or the insert. Reviewz asks every Shopify customer over WhatsApp, SMS and email, routes happy ones to Google or Trustpilot, and catches unhappy feedback privately.
